RAM Day At The Capitol

We are excited to announce that we are planning a Recycling Day at the Capitol on Wednesday, March 4th. We haven’t done this before, so here is what we had in mind.

A Recycling Day at the Capitol is about getting a message across to our legislators about the value of recycling. There are other groups out there from government, from the waste industry, and from nonprofit sector who have their own messages to convey. The biggest message missing is this: Recycling works.

Legislators hear about proposals about waste-to-energy, landfill fees, maintaining public assets, packaging regulation, environmental justice, and more. Often, the common statement from legislators is simply this — “Just tell me first: Does recycling work?”

They’ve heard all the myths: That recycling is a scam, our recycling is just ending up in landfills or the ocean, or that recycling is a drag on the economy. Now they need the facts.

We are excited to be at the Capitol to explain what we know: Because of recycling, we have fewer landfills and waste-to-energy facilities; our state economy has more jobs; the state has more tax revenue; and our domestic manufacturers have valuable raw materials to make new products.

Would you like to join us?

The day will start at 8:00 a.m. in the Governor’s Dining Room in the basement of the Capitol. We’ll have a speaker and an orientation and then send you on your way to talk to your designated legislators. Use this form (link address) to sign-up!

We hope to see you on the 4th!
