February 2017 Agricultural Plastic Update

May 9, 2017 by Brita Sailer

The Agricultural Plastic and Boat Wrap recycling initiative has taken some great steps forward in the past six months. With the advent of the Revolution Plastics company bringing their program to Minnesota in December, 2016 , active on–farm collection of plastics has begun.

On Monday, January 30, 2017, Revolution Plastics’ packer trucks collected 21,300 lbs of ag plastics in Winona County and headed back out the next day to empty the remainder of the 134 dumpsters that were distributed to Winona County farmers on December 21, 2016.
By February 3rd, every Revolution Plastics dumpster in MN will be serviced and a projected grand total of 100,000 lbs of Ag plastics will have been collected in Minnesota under this program.

The next hub will begin operation in this spring for central Minnesota farmers within an 80 mile radius of Sauk Centre. Dispersal of the 400 dumpsters which are currently on the ground in Glenwood, awaiting assignment will get underway when farmer sign ups are complete for that area.

To learn more about these and other developments for Minnesota, we invite you to attend the Ag Plastic /Boat Wrap update meeting scheduled for February 9th from 1-3 pm at the Holiday Inn and Suites in St. Cloud. The agenda is here.
